This retreat is unapologetically about God, specifically your relationship with God. Regardless of whether you identify as religious, spiritual, or unsure about your beliefs in God, this retreat aims to create a sacred space where you can explore and deepen your unique relationship with divinity. We will utilize our yoga practice to facilitate this exploration. At the very core of yogic philosophy and understanding is God. Without connecting to a divine agency or intelligence of some kind, me and you will always remain separate. It is our awakening to the presence of God in all things that brings us into wholeness.
During our time together, we will explore our vinyasa practice with unwavering intention on breath and in the quieting of the mind, and discover that the presence of God has been within us all along. Then we ask ourselves what that means for our lives, how we become living embodiments of prayer, rediscover what it means to have Faith, and live in service to Spirit.
Our days will begin with silent walks and meditation, followed by asana practice, after which we'll chat about our theme of the day. The next few hours can be spent however best serves you; journaling, in reflection and prayer, exploring the surroundings, getting treatments, surfing, or simply getting some needed rest. In the afternoons, we will meet for a more restorative practice, followed by contemplative, prayerful, and discussion-based closure of our evening session.
This retreat is accessible to all and is non-denominational. Your personal beliefs, faith, and practices will be honored and respected. The intention is not to change anyone's existing belief but to cultivate a sacred space where you can deepen your relationship to Spirit and rediscover Faith.
Troy has always said that he would walk away from yoga if he didn't believe it held the potential to deepen one's relationship to their understanding of God and increase our capacity to love. In his book, he encourages readers to redefine their relationship with God if necessary and points out that 'being told of God' is not the same as 'coming to know God' and cultivating one's personal relationship with the Spirit.
While his Asana practice only began in 2003, the underlying teachings of 'living yoga' have been part of his life for as long as he can remember. Over the last decade, he had the honor of furthering his studies, practice, and teaching under the guidance of outstanding teachers. Troy has come to understand that the practice of yoga as a practice that transcends physical postures or any other box we are tempted to put it into. He views the practice as a 'training ground' of sorts where, through intimate and intentional focus, we deepen our relationship to mind, breath, and our personal understanding of God.
As a 'yoga teacher,' Troy intends to share a depth of practice that embodies a form of prayer and allows every practitioner to connect to something beyond the physical aspects of the practice. Furthermore, he aims to continuously create a space that is accessible to all - regardless of their faith, age, or physical limitations.
With mindful and intentional movements, Troy brings an intimate and powerful dimension to today's yoga class, helping to bridge the gap between the pure essence of Yoga and today's disconnected world. At the foundation of his teaching is not just 'the breath' but one's relationship to the breath. He feels that it is essential we discover that no posture, no transition, and no moment is ever the same; we discover what it means to live in the present moment - the only moment when we can know and feel Genuine Love.
