Planning Your Trip to Panama & Sansara

Panama is a beautiful destination year-round, with each season offerings its own unique charm. The dry season, from December to April, is perfect for sunny days, ocean adventures, and clear skies – ideal for those seeking classic tropical weather. The green season, from May to November, brings lush landscapes, dramatic sunsets, fewer crowds, and excellent surfing conditions. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure, there’s truly no wrong time to visit Panama or experience the magic of Sansara.

Yes – Panama is considered one of the safest countries in Central America for travelers. It has a stable government, a strong tourism infrastructure, and friendly locals. Of course, as with travel anywhere, we recommend exercising general awareness, especially in larger cities. At Sansara, located in the tranquil beach town of Cambutal, you’ll find a peaceful and welcoming environment that allows you to fully relax and unwind.

Absolutely. Many solo female travelers find Panama, and especially Cambutal, to be a safe and supportive place to explore. At Sansara, we welcome many solo guests – women included – who are looking to recharge, reconnect, or simply enjoy a meaningful getaway. Our community is inclusive and tight-knit, and we go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels at ease, nurtured, and cared for throughout their stay.

Yes, and we highly encourage it! Traveling solo to a retreat can be a truly empowering and transformative experience. At Sansara, many guests arrive along and leave feeling part of a community. Whether you’re seeking deep rest, connection with nature, or an inspiring reset, you’ll find our environment safe, warm, and inclusive – with plenty of opportunities to connect with others or enjoy peaceful solitude.

All visitors to Panama must have a valid passport, and it should be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. Most travelers from the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. While no specific vaccinations are required for entry, we always suggest checking with your local travel clinic or government health website to stay updated on routine travel immunizations. Our team is also happy to help answer specific questions in advance of your trip.

Panama’s official currency is the Balboa, but in practice, US dollars are used everywhere – making it incredibly convenient for travelers from the United States. At Sansara, we accept Visa and Mastercard, and most businesses in Panama do the same. However, for travel through rural areas, it’s helpful to carry some small denominations of cash. We recommend withdrawing US dollars at the airport or bank in Panama City before traveling to Cambutal.

Cambutal is a peaceful and remote beach town located on the Pacific coast, approximately a 5.5 to 6.5-hour drive from Panama City or Tocumen International Airport. The drive itself is part of the adventure – taking you through rolling hills, small towns, and lush countryside.

For those looking to shorten their travel time, you also have the option to take a short domestic charter flight to the towns of Pedasí or Chitré, both of which are located about 2 hours by car from Sansara. From there, we can arrange ground transportation to bring you the rest of the way in comfort.

Whether you choose the full road trip or a combination of flight and drive, the journey to Cambutal is a beautiful transition from the busy world to the peaceful rhythms of nature. And once you arrive, you’ll quickly see – it’s worth every mile.
